Senior Development Officer

Location: Remote

Salary: $90,000 annually

The African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs (The Alliance) is seeking a strategic, results-oriented Senior Development Officer to drive fundraising and secure critical resources to advance our mission.

This role is responsible for managing day-to-day fundraising activities, including grant writing, donor cultivation, funder relationship management, and development pipeline tracking. The Senior Development Officer will work closely with the Vice President of Development and cross-functional teams to secure funding that supports the Alliance’s programs, initiatives, and long-term growth.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized and persuasive communicator with a proven track record of successful grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Revenue Generation

  • Identify, cultivate, and pursue grant and funding opportunities.
  • Develop and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests.
  • Support efforts to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals.

Grant Writing & Proposal Development

  • Lead proposal development from concept through submission.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather programmatic and financial information.
  • Ensure all submissions are accurate, competitive, and aligned with funder priorities.

Funder Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with foundations, corporations, and other funding partners.
  • Respond promptly to funder requests and steward ongoing partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities for renewed and expanded support.

Development Pipeline Management

  • Maintain a robust pipeline of prospective and current funders.
  • Track proposal statuses, deadlines, and outcomes using CRM and project management tools.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on funding opportunities and progress.

Grant Reporting & Compliance

  • Coordinate timely submission of grant reports.
  • Collaborate with program and finance teams to ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain complete and organized grant records.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with program, finance, marketing, and compliance teams to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising and grant writing experience.
  • Demonstrated success securing grants and managing donor relationships.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
  • Experience using CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with national nonprofits, community development organizations, or mission-driven institutions.
  • Familiarity with CDFIs, racial equity initiatives, and economic justice programs.
