Marketing & Communications Intern

Location: Fully remote

Reports to: VP of Marketing & Communications

The African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs (“The Alliance”) seeks a Marketing & Communications Intern to join our Marketing and Communications department and assist with championing the Alliance’s vision at the national level. The intern will work closely with the VP of Marketing & Communications and Director of Marketing & Communications to assist with the writing of media releases, newsletters, member impact stories, conducting research, developing innovative social media strategies, and much more. We are looking for interns who can commit to 6 months, 10 hours/per week.  

Highly qualified candidates for this role will have strong written and verbal communication skills, experience with public speaking, and basic skills in copywriting and social media marketing. The intern should be able to build relationships with the media and have his/her pulse on current trends, while concurrently looking for ways to boost The Alliance’s brand. 

This internship is for current undergraduate students interested in PR, Media, Journalism, Writing, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Drafting impact stories that showcase the work of The Alliance and how it strengthens our members  
  • Supporting the Marketing & Communications department in implementing The Alliance’s Marketing and PR strategy. 
  • Creating engaging content for our blog, social media platforms, media pitches, and newsletters. 
  • Staying abreast of the latest trends in social media and digital marketing and suggesting ways to improve The Alliance’s online presence. 
  • Assist the Marketing & Communications department with researching media outlets and reporters to build relationships. 
  • Giving input on marketing initiatives and suggesting creative ways to improve The Alliance’s public image. 
  • Conducting research on the marketing initiatives of the Alliance’s peers and competitors. 
  • Monitoring of media coverage on events, interviews, and media releases that were issued and creating press clippings. 
  • Updating media lists and social media calendar. 

Marketing & Communications Intern Requirements: 

  • Enrollment in a BA or BS degree in public relations, communication, journalism, marketing, or related field. 
  • Understanding of various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. 
  • Efficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Experience in working on Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. 
  • Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with leadership. 
  • Good research and analytical skills. 
  • The ability to prioritize your workload and keep to strict content deadlines. 
  • Willingness to attend virtual events as schedule permits. 
  • Knowledge of copywriting and editing. 
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
